A Simulation Approach for Stochastic Employee Days-off Scheduling

چکیده
This paper presents a simulation approach for employee days-off scheduling when the daily labour demands are random variables. A simulation model is constructed, and a case study application of the proposed approach is described. The model recognizes limited staff availability, stochastic workload variability, and policy restrictions on the choice of employee work schedules. The model has been successfully applied in the days-off scheduling of a multicraft maintenance workforce of an oil and gas pipelines department. Without increasing the number or cost of employees, the model recommended alternative days-off assignments that are expected to reduce throughput times for maintenance work orders by an average

A dynamic programming algorithm for days-off scheduling with sequence dependent labor costs
This paper presents a dynamic programming (DP) algorithm for solving a labor scheduling problem with several realistic days-off scheduling constraints and a cost structure that depends on the work sequence for each employee. The days-off scheduling constraints include the following: (1) each employee is assigned no more than three workdays per week, (2) each employee is assigned at least two co...
متن کاملTrain Scheduling Problem - Phase I: A General Simulation Modeling Framework
One of the important problems in management of railway systems is train scheduling problem. This is the problem of determining a timetable for a set of trains that do not violate infrastructure capacities and satisfies some operational constraints. In this study, a feasible timetable generator framework for stochastic simulation modeling is developed. The objective is to obtain a feasible tr...
متن کاملA JOINT DUTY CYCLE SCHEDULING AND ENERGY AWARE ROUTING APPROACH BASED ON EVOLUTIONARY GAME FOR WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS
Network throughput and energy conservation are two conflicting important performance metrics for wireless sensor networks. Since these two objectives are in conflict with each other, it is difficult to achieve them simultaneously. In this paper, a joint duty cycle scheduling and energy aware routing approach is proposed based on evolutionary game theory which is called DREG. Making a trade-off ...
متن کاملA Bayesian stochastic programming approach to an employee scheduling problem
Bayesian forecasting models provide distributional estimates for random parameters, and relative to classical schemes, have the advantage that they can rapidly capture changes in nonstationary systems using limited historical data. Unlike deterministic optimization, stochastic programs explicitly incorporate distributions for random parameters in the model formulation, and thus have the advanta...
متن کاملOptimum workforce scheduling under the (14, 21) days-off timetable
An efficient optimum solution is presented for a real-life employee daysoff scheduling problem with a three-week cycle. Over a given work cycle, each worker is given 14 successive workdays and 7 successive off days. This three-week days-off timetable is referred to as the (14, 21) schedule. Given different labor demands for each day of the week, the primary objective is to minimize the number o...
